About the museum

The Nádasdladány castle was built in the second half of the 19th century by Count Nádasdy Ferenc (1842–1907), in the late medieval English Tudor (Elizabethan) style. The village was the centre of the family’s extensive estates in Transdanubia and takes its name from the Nádasdy family. The building is surrounded by a 24-hectare landscaped garden with rare plants and a lake.

The restored castle welcomes visitors under the title “The Castle of Legends”. The permanent exhibition presents the family’s home and daily life in the 19th and 20th centuries as well as the rules of aristocratic social life; an important thread is the love story of Count Nádasdy Ferenc and Zichy Ilona. The exhibition combines interiors resembling the originals with modern, digital tools.

Visitors can walk through the rooms individually along the suggested route, and small or large groups may request a guided tour. The visit is supported by a Visual Guide device, which also offers details not shown in the exhibition.
