About the museum
The former Rudnyánszky Mansion is one of the best-known Hungarian Baroque monuments. Báró Rudnyánszky József, husband of Száraz Julianna, had it built between 1743 and 1751 to plans by Mayerhoffer András, using the Roman foundations found here and the earlier mansion. The pivot stone of the west-facing gate of the Roman villa rustica, built in the 1st–2nd century, can still be seen in the mansion's cellar.
The Nagytétény mansion is among the outstanding works of Hungarian Baroque architecture and shows the stylistic features of the Grassalkovich-type mansions.
As a branch of the Iparművészeti Múzeum, the mansion houses a furniture history exhibition that presents the best of European furniture-making from the Gothic to the Biedermeier, from the 14th to the 19th century. According to the Iparművészeti Múzeum, the mansion is closed for renovation work; the building and park can be visited only occasionally, in connection with events.
