About the museum
The museum has operated since 1983 in the Nepomucenus Mill in Tata, which was built in 1758 to plans by Fellner Jakab and named after Saint John of Nepomuk (Nepomuki Szent János). The three-storey main building has around 500 square metres of exhibition space; the former granary serves as the collection’s store.
The permanent exhibition presents the material culture of the Germans of Hungary under the title Mi és a többiek (We and the Others). On the ground floor an animated film illustrates the original structure, operation and history of the mill. The permanent exhibitions opened in 1973, 1985, 1997 and 2015. In 2019 the museum received the Közösségi múzeum díj (Community Museum Award), and in 2023 the special prize of the ICOM Hungarian National Committee.
