About the museum
The exhibition was established in 2003 as a private collection, building on decades of work by Gömbös Mátyás, hunting master of the Széchenyi Zsigmond Hunting Society in Őriszentpéter. Its core consists of trophies of game shot in the Őrség: impressive red deer antlers, wild boar tusks, interesting roe deer antlers and trophies of animals culled for genetic reasons.
A special highlight is the “Africa Room”, where animals hunted in Namibia and Equatorial Guinea are displayed, for example various subspecies of antelope, warthog, brush-eared pig and red buffalo. Among the taxidermy of animals not native to the Őrség are the capercaillie, the last one seen in the wild in Hungary in the Őrség, as well as a black grouse cock, a bear skin, mouflon, marmot and chamois.
