About the museum
Pottery in Magyarszombatfa looks back on a history of nearly 700 years. The empty buildings of the old ceramics factory were brought back to life in 2005: the kilns were fired up again, and within the framework of MAT-Kerámia Kft. the first tiled stoves were made. Besides the operation of the stove-tile factory, a fruit-juice plant, a visitor centre and a café were later set up.
The exhibition of the Őrségi Kerámia Látogatóközpont (Őrség Ceramics Visitor Centre) opened in 2022, presenting the raw materials and production technologies of ceramics. The exhibitions are: “Hagyománytól a tudományig – utazás a kerámiák világába” (From Tradition to Science – A Journey into the World of Ceramics), “A Magyarszombatfai Kerámiagyár története” (History of the Magyarszombatfa Ceramics Factory) and “Az őrségi fazekasok” (The Őrség Potters). The visitor centre also includes a craft workshop and the Kerámia Kávézó (Ceramics Café).
