About the museum
The Paksi Városi Múzeum was founded by the town council in 1993 and opened in 1994 in the old-town manor house, which once belonged to the Cseh-Vigyázó and later the Mádi-Kovács family. Its collecting remit covers archaeological, ethnographic and local history finds from the town area. In 1994 a stone collection was handed over, and by 1995 the first permanent exhibition on the history of the town had been completed.
In 2015 renovation began on the neighbouring Szeniczey manor house, which was converted into exhibition space. In 2016 the new permanent exhibition Paksi Metszet opened there, presenting the town on a floor area ten times larger than before. The Pákolitz István Memorial Room was renovated in 2019 and moved to its present location.
The museum also includes the Lussonium ruin garden, established in 2003 at Dunakömlőd-Bottyánsánc near Paks, on the site of a former Roman military auxiliary camp. The Paks painting collection came to the museum building from the Paks Picture Gallery, which has since closed.
