About the museum
The Csempeszkopács museum was established in 1975 as the result of ten years of professional collecting work, and moved into the building of the 16th-century small castle. After restoration and processing of the ethnographic, local history and industrial history material collected in Csempeszkopács and its surroundings – Vasszécseny, Nemeskolta and Meggyeskovácsi – the first permanent exhibitions opened in September 1976. The building has been a listed monument since 1985.
The permanent exhibitions include the natural science collection of Dr. Ferencz Károly, geologist; the ethnography of Csempeszkopács and its surroundings, presenting the peasant way of life at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries (including the so-called “stolen” gallery-house type); the local and school history of the settlement; and an exhibition presenting the vestments, service books and banners of the Roman Catholic church of Csempeszkopács.
