About the museum
The heritage house on Szeder utca, next to the Sarród cemetery, was created in 2005–2006 from a peasant house built in the 1930s. The aim was for it to be not only a display house, but also a worthy venue for community programmes that preserve tradition. The furnishings were collected from donations by residents of Sarród, Fertőújlak and Nyárliget.
The kitchen, parlour and pantry of the gable-roofed house with an open veranda offer insight into the daily life of a family that lived here nearly a century ago. The exhibition recalls the world of the Fertő-shore fishermen, peasants, craftsmen and seasonal labourers (summások), and also presents prehistoric, Roman and medieval archaeological finds.
