About the museum
The Schumacher house in Nagyvázsony, a peasant house named after its last owner, was built in 1825, with a stucco-decorated gable and a columned porch. It operates as an open-air ethnographic exhibition site: the open-hearth kitchen with the characteristic prism-shaped oven of the Bakony and the Balaton Uplands, the living room furnished with inlaid furniture (including a weaver’s loom), and the local history exhibition in the parlour present the craft and farming life of the market town.
Beneath the residential building is a cellar, where the tools of viticulture and wine storage are displayed; in the barn are the tools of arable farming and do-it-yourself repairs, and in the stable is the complete tool set of Pintér Rudolf, the last representative of a copper-craftsman dynasty of Nagyvázsony. The first room hosts a temporary exhibition each year, where today’s craftspeople of the region can also present their work.
