About the museum
The oldest listed building in Balatonfüred stands in the upper town, on Bajcsy-Zsilinszky utca. Its foundation was the medieval church of the village of Füred, built in honour of St Margaret, which is first mentioned in a charter of 1267. In the 18th century the Reformed congregation demolished the old walls and built an early Baroque church in their place; the building later operated as a synagogue.
In the renovated building the Zsidó Kiválóságok Háza opened in spring 2018: the building regained its sacred function, and inside it there is a modern permanent and temporary exhibition. The permanent exhibition presents Nobel laureate scientists, architects and artists of Jewish descent, and focuses on the relationship between Jewishness and everyday life. Touch-screen computers, sound points, interactive projectors and tables, models, and a drawing and play corner help visitors' understanding; the sound points speak in Hungarian, English, German and Hebrew.
