About the museum
Among the 20th-century houses of Petőfi utca stands a peasant house built at the beginning of the 19th century, which is the heritage house of Zalalövő. The farmstead can be entered through two gates: the large gate served livestock and carts, the small gate the movement of the household and guests. The courtyard is bordered in an L shape by the log-walled house with its thatched roof; the cellar is under the best room, and a hall runs the full length of the house, from which the rooms open. The decorations of the farmstead are the wheel well (kerekes kút) and the separate pigsty; behind it lies an estate of about two hold (kétholdas).
The house originally belonged to Kovács Sándor, who died in 1986 and left the estate to the town (then still a village); with his expert advice he also helped the professional restoration. The heritage house is run by the “Salla” Művelődési Központ és Könyvtár (“Salla” Cultural Centre and Library), and visitors can view it with the help of a staff member of the institution.
