About the museum
The Labioli area and the percorso delle calcare are part of the Museo diffuso di Lusiana (dispersed museum), the network of outdoor and indoor sites dedicated to the history and traditions of the Lusiana Conco area. The theme of this place is the traditional work in the woods.
About 3 km from the centre of Lusiana, along the percorso delle calcare that starts in the centre of the hamlet of Vitarolo, there is a demonstration area in the woods. It includes the charcoal burner's shelter, beside demonstration charcoal kilns, and the woodcutter's hut, with its biode (wooden bunks) and fogolaro (open hearth), which shows how woodcutters lived and worked.
The route also passes a calcara, the type of kiln in which lime was produced, and, at the edge of the woods, the small basins cut into the rock called labioli, where drinking water was collected. The area can be visited freely; guided tours must be booked through the Museo diffuso.
