About the museum
The museum in Sasso di Asiago commemorates the Battle of the Tre Monti, fought between the Col del Rosso, the Col d'Ecchele and Monte Valbella. These heights were the scene of very fierce fighting during the Strafexpedition of 1916 and again at the end of 1917, with the battles of January and June 1918: lost and retaken several times, they were the bulwark to be overcome in order to descend to the Venetian plain at Breganze.
It was founded in 2007 by Guido Baù and Gianangelo Rossi and is housed in a municipal building in the hamlet of Sasso (in Cimbrian, Stonach). The founders, together with a group of volunteers, most of whom own the collections, run the museum, carry out research and maintain memorial plaques and inscriptions in the area. Over the years the collections have been enriched by many donors.
The rooms display weapons, ammunition, personal effects and trench tools found in the area, in particular relics of the British and French troops who arrived on the Asiago Plateau after Caporetto. In summer the museum hosts exhibitions, lectures and screenings, and it is one of the sites of the Ecomuseo della Grande Guerra delle Prealpi Vicentine.
