About the museum
The BeGo museum is dedicated to Benozzo Gozzoli, a 15th-century Florentine painter, and houses the two frescoed tabernacles he created in Castelfiorentino: the Tabernacolo della Madonna della Tosse (Tabernacle of the Madonna of the Cough, 1484) and the Tabernacolo della Madonna delle Grazie, also known as the Visitation (1490–1491). The frescoes, detached from their original locations and restored, are now brought together in a single building in the lower part of the historic centre, on Via Testaferrata.
The tabernacles are presented in their original dimensions, together with the sinopie (the preparatory drawings). On the first floor, multimedia stations created with the Istituto e Museo di Storia della Scienza allow visitors to examine the details of the paintings and to explore the history of the works through an interactive application.
The museum is run by the Municipality of Castelfiorentino and presents itself as a “museum for everyone”, with the aim of making the artist's work accessible to a wide public.
