About the museum
The museum was founded to safeguard, preserve and promote the devotional heritage of the pievi and churches of the Montespertoli area. It is housed in the Pieve di San Piero in Mercato and displays paintings, masterpieces of sacred art and liturgical furnishings.
The route is laid out in four rooms, arranged by church and grouped by pieve. The first holds paintings and silverware from the pieve of San Piero in Mercato; the second canvases and wooden furnishings from the same pieve; the third frescoes and silverware from the pieve of Coeli Aula and San Pancrazio; the last is dedicated to vestments and paper material.
Among the finest works are a tempera on panel by Filippo Lippi, a panel by Neri di Bicci, a terracotta by the Della Robbia workshop and an ancient marble baptismal font of the 12th century.
