About the museum
The Accademia degli Euteleti dates back to the 17th century: founded as the Accademia degli Affidati on the initiative of Bishop Alessandro Strozzi and devoted to literature and the sciences, it was refounded in 1748 as the Accademia dei Rinati, partly through members of the Buonaparte family. The current name dates from the refounding of 30 December 1822, promoted by Torello Pierazzi, future bishop of San Miniato, and by the poet Pietro Bagnoli, with the aim of spreading Tuscan culture through scientific studies, agriculture and the literary heritage.
The seat is Palazzo Migliorati in San Miniato. The academy keeps a large archive and an extensive library, organises exhibitions and conferences, and is part of the Sistema museale di San Miniato.
The visitable collection includes archival documents, old prints and contemporary graphic works by Pietro Parigi and by the painter Dilvo Lotti from San Miniato. Its best-known piece is the copy of the death mask of Napoleon Bonaparte, which arrived in 1951 thanks to the architect and sculptor Flaminio Bretoni.
