About the museum
At the entrance to the Orrido di Bellano, overhanging the Pioverna stream, stands a small three-storey tower with a pentagonal plan. The name Ca' del Diavol derives from the frescoes in its upper part, where zodiac signs, the devil and other mythological figures can be seen, and from legends that describe it as the scene of satanic rites, feasts and orgiastic gatherings.
Today the tower houses a multimedia museum route that tells the history and origins of the Bellano area. The visit begins on a cantilevered staircase above the gorge, with a view of the first stretch of the Orrido, and continues from the bottom upwards; the visitor is introduced by a video featuring Sigismondo Boldoni, a distinguished historian from Bellano.
The ground floor is devoted to history: from the geological formation of the Orrido and the Lake Como area, to the exploitation of the Pioverna's waters, up to the discovery of the place by tourists. The second floor tells the legend: from a large book the story of the Pesa Vegia comes to life, the oldest and most important historical costume re-enactment in the area. The third floor is the journey: virtual reality stations follow the course of the Pioverna up to the gorge, cross the Valsassina and reach the summit of the Grigna, before returning finally to Lake Como.
