About the museum
The Casa Bicocchi museum is located in Via Roncalli in Pomarance, in the historic halls of a 19th-century middle-class palazzo that the municipality bought in 1980. The building houses the permanent archaeological exhibition “Guerrieri e Artigiani” (Warriors and Craftsmen), which tells the history of the Val di Cecina area in six rooms, from the Palaeolithic to the Renaissance.
Among the main finds are the Ciottolo di Lustignano, a pebble engraved with a bison, and the Etruscan stele of Pomarance, dating to the late 6th century BC. Other objects document the traditions, customs and religious beliefs of the peoples who inhabited the area over the centuries.
According to the registers consulted, the museum is open with reduced hours at weekends in spring and summer. Guided tours are available.
