About the museum
The Museo della Geotermia is located in Larderello, in the municipality of Pomarance, on the ground floor of Palazzo de’ Larderel, close to the Enel Green Power headquarters. It is an interactive, highly technological and multimedia route designed to show the many technical and industrial applications of geothermal energy and how they have developed.
The exhibition fills ten rooms and traces the development of the area: from the first chemical industries linked to boric acid to the production of mechanical, thermal and electrical energy, up to modern power plants. Some models illustrate exploration and drilling techniques.
Outside the museum, visitors can watch the scheduled openings of the demonstration steam vent (soffione), a well drilled in 1956 to a depth of 740 metres. From the reception point, guided external visits also set off to the fumaroles of Sasso Pisano and the Parco delle Biancane.
