About the museum
The exhibition route is set up inside the house that was the scene of a Nazi-Fascist reprisal in the summer of 1944. At dawn on 22 July the residents of the small hamlet of Tavolicci were rounded up and locked into a house, where they were killed; the building was then set on fire. The victims were 64 civilians, 19 of them children under the age of 10. The action was part of a strategy of terror against civilians intended to suppress the partisan movement active along the Gothic Line.
The renovated spaces house the photographic and documentary exhibition “Stragi ed uccisioni in provincia di Forlì”, a reconstruction of rooms that show everyday life in the mountain communities, copper works by the sculptor Lucio Cangini, and paintings donated by artists from the province of Forlì-Cesena that depict the massacre. Every year, on 22 July, commemorations are held in memory of the massacre.
