About the museum
The house museum is housed in an old dwelling in the historic centre of Casteldelci, in the upper Valmarecchia. The collection documents human presence in the area since the Palaeolithic, with flaked stones and arrowheads, and the rural settlements of the imperial age through grave goods, pottery, oil lamps, bronze objects, loom weights and coins.
Among the more curious finds are the imprint of a hobnailed sandal on a roof tile before firing, and a glirarium, the terracotta container in which dormice were kept.
Alongside the archaeological sections, new sections have been added on the recent history of the valley, with particular attention to the Second World War and the massacres of April–July 1944, above all the Fragheto massacre (strage di Fragheto). The route, housed on the piano nobile and the floor above, is multimedia and emotional: it uses sound, projections on the walls, documents, photographs and period objects, and a timeline drawn along the stairs.
