About the museum
The Casa Museo di Baressa, run by the Comune, is located in the heart of the historic centre, in a building from the second half of the 19th century, fully restored and furnished with the modest household items of peasant life. It was created to recover and safeguard an important historical testimony, and it is cherished by the small community as a symbol of the lives of generations of residents.
The house, set between two courtyards paved with stone, contains the animal shelter with mangers and tools, the electric mill from the early 20th century, the bedroom with ancient artefacts, the hearth (“su foxibi”), the guest room with tapestries hand-woven in the traditional Baressa technique in bright colours, the weaving room, the pantry and the grain store.
In the rear courtyard are shelters for poultry, ploughs and field tools, as well as the olive press room with an antique animal-drawn press, a hand press and other implements of rural life.
