About the museum
The Casa della Resistenza in Sala Biellese was founded in 1992 as the Mostra permanente della Resistenza, on the initiative of Elio Parlamento “Varzi”, president of ANPI Valle Elvo e Serra, and of the partisans of Sala Biellese, the Valle Elvo and the Serra.
The route gives a historical introduction to the Biella partisan movement and looks in particular at the themes and events linked to the Serra and the Comune of Sala Biellese. It is based on a large body of photographic and documentary material, accompanied by short explanatory texts, and on period relics such as partisan uniforms, German and Anglo-American military equipment and objects of civilian use. A model of the territory helps visitors understand the physical spaces in which the Biella Resistance took place.
From the 2018 season the permanent exhibition also includes the space “Quando a scuola andavano i balilla”, devoted to primary education under Fascism: textbooks, exercise books, school reports and teaching materials from the 1930s and 1940s, with photographs from the Cesare Valerio archive, made available by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Biella. The Casa also hosts temporary exhibitions, cultural events and a library of more than 250 titles on the Second World War, Fascism, anti-fascism and the Resistance.
