About the museum
The Casa di Dante in Lunigiana is based in Mulazzo, in the 13th-century tower house that is the last survivor of the village’s ancient walls, in Via Pompeo Signorini. The complex is run by the Centro Lunigianese di Studi Danteschi and recalls the relationship between Dante Alighieri and the Lunigiana, where the poet was a guest of the Malaspina family.
On the piano nobile (main floor) are the Museo Dantesco Lunigianese, named after the Dante scholar Livio Galanti, the “Romano Galanti” Art Gallery, the “Giovanni Sforza” Lunigiana Dante Library and the “Paride Chistoni” Multimedia Room. The museum illustrates the Dante references linked to the area: the eighth canto of the Purgatorio, the records of the peace of Castelnuovo, the epistle of Friar Ilaro to Uguccione della Faggiola, the fourth epistle to Moroello Malaspina and the legend of the first seven cantos of the Inferno.
The multimedia room hosts the Centre’s monthly study sessions and lessons during public visits. The museum is linked to the literary park “Dante Alighieri – Lunigiana storica” and to the event “Via Dantis”, an itinerant reading of the Divine Comedy in nine stages through the village.
