About the museum
Casa Menotti is the Spoleto home of the composer Gian Carlo Menotti, founder of the Festival dei Due Mondi (Festival of Two Worlds), which was launched in 1958. Today the building houses a documentation centre open to the public free of charge and included in the city's museum circuit.
The centre was set up through the collaboration of the Fondazione Monini, the Fondazione Festival dei Due Mondi and the Municipality of Spoleto. The Festival's audio, video and photographic archive, gathered by the three bodies, has been digitised by the Fondazione Monini and made accessible through multimedia tools.
The visit unfolds over three floors. On the ground floor a monitor shows statistics from the archive, and a research station allows scholars to consult the digital materials. On the first floor are the wall of names of the Festival's protagonists, an interactive table, films from the Istituto Luce (Luce Institute) and a screening room. On the second floor are Menotti's piano room, a virtual photo album and the Maestro's bedroom, now a space for reflection with projections.
