About the museum
The museum was established in 1962 by Monsignor Antonio Bergamaschi, Bishop of San Marino-Montefeltro, to preserve works of art and liturgical furnishings from the churches of the diocese. It is housed in the Palazzo Bocchi, next to the Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Grazie in Pennabilli.
After several years of closure for a thorough restoration of the building and a renewal of the displays, the museum reopened to the public on 8 July 2010. According to the museum, the route brings together around a thousand items across twenty rooms and is designed as a narrative of the dialogue between humanity and God in the history of the diocese: the objects are staged as if in an attic, a trunk or a drawer, to evoke the ups and downs of memory and oblivion.
The displays include paintings, sculptures, silverware, majolica, vestments and sacred furnishings. Among the works mentioned are a wooden tabernacle from the late 16th century and the repoussé silver casing of the Madonna delle Grazie, dated 1734, as well as works by artists such as Guido Cagnacci and Carlo Cignani.
