About the museum
The Casa Museo di Cerveno occupies a rural building from the late 16th century, once owned by the Mondoni and Bazzoni families and lived in until the last decades of the 20th century. The municipality of Cerveno bought it to preserve the structure and to move there the ethnographic material collected earlier. Opened to the public in 2006, it is recognised by the Lombardy Region as a museum collection and also serves as a venue for cultural meetings, conferences and educational workshops.
The house retains its original construction features: vaulted rooms, the use of limestone, wood and iron, and many rooms connected by stairs, as in a typical farmhouse of the Alpine valleys. The objects and furnishings on display document local ways of life, with tools for field work, viticulture and winemaking, livestock rearing, silvo-pastoral activities and crafts.
One section is devoted to the Santa Crus, the living representation of the Passion of Christ that the community stages every ten years: costumes, weapons, helmets, cuirasses, symbols of the Passion and images of the preparatory phases are on display.
