About the museum
On 23 January 2012, a week before his death, Carlo Plassier bequeathed his house to the Comune di La Salle, complete with furnishings and artworks, on condition that it be opened to the public in the future. The collection grew out of some sixty years of passionate buying: Plassier, self-taught, bought paintings at auctions, at flea markets and from second-hand dealers, and then had them carefully restored. In the 1960s and 1980s he hosted artists in his hotel, who left works created on site in exchange for their stay.
The collection is heterogeneous, combining well-known names with amateur painters, but it also includes refined and unexpected choices. On the first floor the collector’s home can be visited, while the apartment on the ground floor presents a biographical profile of the owner and the collection of works by Aosta Valley artists, first among them Italo Mus.
Since July 2025 the Maison also houses the Biblioteca di La Salle.
