About the museum
The Sa domu antiga museum house is in the centre of Santadi, in the Sulcis, in an early 20th-century building that belonged to a local family. The Comune restored it and bought it to make a museum devoted to the rural life of the area.
The house reproduces the typical rural dwelling of the Sulcis, built with local materials and techniques. The rooms – bedroom, dining room, kitchen and anteroom – are furnished with furniture and tools for the household work of the past, comprising some 800 objects in all.
Among the most significant pieces is a working wooden loom with its accessories, along with the materials for weaving, for dyeing wool with natural dyes and for working raw linen. The courtyard has a well and tools for farm work, bread-making and winemaking, and there are spaces for keeping animals and for displaying local crafts.
