About the museum
Giuseppe Sarto, who reigned as Pope Pio X from 1903 to 1914, was born in Riese in 1835. The birthplace has kept its original furnishings, arranged to recreate the rural setting in which he grew up, and next to it a museum displays the Pope's personal objects and an exhibition on his life.
The site is run by the Fondazione Giuseppe Sarto, established in 1985, which is also a centre for historical research on Pio X. In 2016 a visitor reception point with a bookshop was opened at the birthplace.
The visit is part of a cultural and religious route in the footsteps of Pio X that lies largely within less than a kilometre: it passes the parish church of San Matteo, Villa Eger, the cemetery, the Curiotto path and the Cendrole sanctuary.
