About the museum
The Fondazione Cassino Museo Arte Contemporanea (CaMusAC) is a non-profit institution founded in 2013 through the reuse of the industrial buildings of the Longo company, at the foot of the hill on which the abbey of Montecassino stands. The museum does not occupy a purpose-built site, but reuses the large sheds of the former factory.
At the heart of its activity is the foundation’s permanent collection, the result of a systematic policy of acquisitions pursued for over thirty years. The project aims to contribute to the cultural growth of southern Lazio, an area already rich in archaeological, historical and religious sites, and it works with the University of Cassino, the Liceo artistico statale (state art high school) and the Accademia di Belle Arti di Frosinone.
The collection index lists more than a hundred artists, including Alighiero Boetti, Jannis Kounellis, Mario Merz, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Giuseppe Penone, Louise Bourgeois, Yayoi Kusama, Sol LeWitt, Antony Gormley and Jaume Plensa. Alongside the permanent collection the museum organises exhibitions of significant artists of the 20th and 21st centuries, lectures, research seminars, workshops and guided tours.
