About the museum
The castle of Ivrea was built in 1358 at the wish of Amadeus VI of Savoy and is one of the city's symbols, known for its towers. It stands in the historic centre, with views over the city and the morainic amphitheatre. A fourth tower was broken by an explosion in 1676.
In the past the castle was used as a prison, and the cells of that period survive. After a long period of closure and a restoration carried out by the Comune, the castle reopened to the public on 20 July 2024.
The visit includes the spacious courtyard, the old cells and the wall walks, which after the restoration have been opened to visitors for the first time.
