About the museum
The museum is housed in the former stables of the Palazzo Comitale dei Fieschi, a 13th-century building overlooking the forecourt of the Basilica dei Fieschi in the hamlet of San Salvatore di Cogorno. The palace, rectangular in plan with a portico on the ground floor and large windows framed in marble, was a residence of the Fieschi counts, the powerful Genoese family that gave two popes to the Church.
After restoration, the floors of the building have been given over to museum rooms for exhibitions and cultural initiatives. On the ground floor of the former stables, local craft and art products are presented, such as macramé, bobbin lace and carvings in olive wood and slate, while the upper floor is the actual seat of the museum.
The municipality of Cogorno runs the space and opens it periodically on the occasion of new exhibitions and events in the village.
