About the museum
The Torre del Borgo, about 13 metres high, is a tower in the historic centre of Lavagna, built in the 16th century, perhaps by the Fieschi as a lookout or defensive tower. For centuries it was the tallest building in the town; later it was also a residence, with a private chapel. Restored for the Jubilee of 2000, it now hosts cultural activities and stands in a hidden garden suited to reading.
Inside are a gallery dedicated to slate, with works by the Lavagna-born sculptor Francesco Dallorso, and the archaeological collection of Rodolfo Alloisio, with 88 finds mainly from the Tigullio. A permanent display also presents Renaissance ceramics and majolica from Tuscany and Liguria, found in the tower during restoration work.
Exhibitions and concerts are held in the garden below.
