About the museum
The Centro di Documentazione dell’Industria italiana delle Piastrelle di Ceramica was founded in 1992 by Confindustria Ceramica, the association of Italian companies in the sector, to preserve the memory of the ceramics industry and to offer companies and scholars a place dedicated to historical research.
It is based in Sassuolo, in the Palazzina Ducale della Casiglia, a former hunting lodge of the Este family, remodelled in the mid-18th century by the architect Pietro Bezzi for Francesco III, and surrounded by a park enclosed by walls.
The Centre includes a library with volumes on the ceramics sector, historical statistical series and the complete archive of the magazine “Cer il giornale della ceramica”, as well as a museum section with more than 2,000 tiles that document the evolution of the product from artistic, technological and commercial points of view. The premises also display the Vistarino collection of antique ceramics produced in Sassuolo between the second half of the 18th and the first half of the 19th century.
