About the museum

Maison Bruil stands in the hamlet of Ville Dessus, in Introd, and is an example of rural architecture of the Gran Paradiso: an old farm where the spaces for people and for animals were gathered under the same roof. The present form derives from alterations made between 1680 and 1856, when the separate bodies were joined into a single structure.

The visit takes place over three floors, with rooms restored to their original function: the cellar, the crotta (a cool cellar cooled with ice), the drying rooms and the attic. Here a permanent exhibition on food preservation is set up, based on oral testimonies collected across the region from 1980: cold, salt, drying, smoking, cooking and isolation from air and light, techniques born from the brevity of the growing season at high altitude.

The Atelier du Goût is the space dedicated to local products, with presentations and tastings, and the “Mistero della Foresta” is a game-trail for adults and children. Nearby, the dairy of Les Villes-Dessus, built in 1913–1914 and in operation until the mid-1980s, has been converted into an interactive centre on the milk supply chain, which can be visited during events or by reservation for groups.
