About the museum
The visitor centre in Rhêmes-Notre-Dame, in the hamlet of Chanavey, tells the story of the lammergeier, Europe’s largest bird of prey, in chronological order: from its near extinction to its lasting return to the Parco Gran Paradiso. The route also covers the other birds of the park.
The permanent exhibition features a lammergeier nest rebuilt on a rock face, an ossuary, a model of gliding flight and displays on the park’s other birds. There is an information desk, a projection room and a space for temporary exhibitions. A touch-free multimedia station offers “Gran Paradiso VR – The experience of Nature”, a 360° virtual climb to the Gran Paradiso. The centre is also one of three information points of the Convenzione delle Alpi (Alpine Convention) in the park. It is managed together with the Fondation Grand Paradis.
