About the museum
For time immemorial the inhabitants of Valgrisenche have devoted themselves to weaving drap, a rustic cloth of sheep’s wool made on traditional looms. Originally it came in only a few colours; today it is produced in a fair range of shades and designs, mostly geometric.
The permanent exhibition “Lo drap: l’anima tessile di una comunità” was set up in 2009 in the Salone polivalente Vieux Quartier to mark forty years of activity of the Les Tisserands cooperative, founded in 1969. Through images, objects and testimonies from residents, it tells of a know-how handed down from generation to generation, which involved entire families in an economic activity at risk of disappearing in the 1950s. A publication on the exhibition is also available.
