About the museum

The visitor centre is in Borgo Rivola, in the municipality of Riolo Terme, in a restored former road workers’ house along the provincial road between Borgo Rivola and Casola Valsenio, near the Grotta del Re Tiberio. It is part of the network of the Parco regionale della Vena del Gesso Romagnola, managed by the Ente di gestione per i Parchi e la Biodiversità Romagna.

The exhibition rooms were designed together with the Federazione Speleologica dell’Emilia-Romagna and illustrate karst phenomena and the world of caves. The centre also hosts educational activities for schools, themed exhibitions and events, and has an information point and a hostel.

The centre is part of the “Museo Geologico Diffuso” (dispersed geological museum), the system that links, among others, the museum in Tossignano, the open-air geological museum in Brisighella and four geological trails. It is also the starting point, along the short Sentiero delle Felci, for reaching the Grotta del Re Tiberio.
