About the museum

The Museo Naturalistico di Stradella was founded at the end of the 1970s as the Museo del Po, following the discovery along the river banks and in the surrounding area of fossilised bones of prehistoric animals, fossil plants, ancient human remains and settlements. Today it seeks to represent the natural environment of the entire Oltrepò. It is named after Ferruccio Lombardi, the researcher who first identified the river finds and began their conservation and cataloguing.

The museum occupies the ground-floor rooms of the Centro Culturale Polivalente on Via Montebello. The display covers geology, palaeontology and prehistory, with numerous prehistoric artefacts, and presents autotrophs and heterotrophs, with themes of ecology and the environment. Particular attention is given to bees and to the life cycle of the silkworm.
