About the museum
The Museo della Fisarmonica in Stradella was established by a resolution of the municipal council in 1997 and opened on 20 May 1999, with singer-songwriter Paolo Conte as guest of honour. It aims to preserve a chapter of local history that made the small town of Stradella known around the world: since 1876, a total of 44 accordion factories have existed in the town. The permanent exhibition grew out of years of field research, with the help of eyewitnesses, archive records and donations of instruments, tools and documents.
The route is divided into three sections across five rooms. The first describes the historical context in which the accordion industry took shape; the educational section follows, analysing the instrument’s components, technical features and musical characteristics; the final rooms present a wide range of models, all produced in Stradella and arranged chronologically by period.
The collection includes important pieces and some unique examples, such as the first accordion built in Stradella by the pioneer Mariano Dallapè in 1871, and the liturgical Organfisa, whose sound resembles that of an organ. Each object and document has a short caption, and the sections are complemented by information panels; an expert guide is available for visitors who want more detail.
