About the museum
The art collection of the Arciconfraternita della Misericordia di San Miniato is housed in a large hall on the first floor of Palazzo Roffia, in Via Augusto Conti, a building commissioned by Tommaso Roffia. It brings together works of art, sacred vestments and devotional objects that tell the history of the confraternity, which has always been closely linked to the community of San Miniato.
Among the most precious pieces are several reliquaries, including one that holds the stole of Saint Charles Borromeo, which came into the collection through family ties between the Borromeo and Roffia families. The collection also includes medieval, Renaissance and Baroque works.
The main piece is a wooden group of the Deposition, with figures almost life-size of Christ, the Virgin and Saint John, coming from the sacristy of the chapel of the Santissima Trinità and dating to the late 13th century. The collection is visited by reservation, with the possibility of a guided tour.
