About the museum
The Museo della Memoria, known as MuMe, opened on 24 July 2018 in the Loggiati di San Domenico, in San Miniato Alta, a complex that also houses the municipal library. It holds documentary and interactive testimonies of the community’s more recent history, with particular attention to the Second World War, the values of anti-fascism and the Resistance.
The museum was created in collaboration with the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa, whose Dreams Lab developed educational multimedia applications. Much of the material on display comes from the memories of citizens, who chose to tell their own stories through objects, letters, photographs and video memories.
The route is divided into three sections covering the period from 1921 to 1946. Through videos, audio and documents, visitors retrace the years of the Fascist regime and the dramatic events linked to the passage of the front during the Second World War. Particularly significant are the video testimonies of the people of San Miniato who lived through those years and thus preserved the oral memory of those events.
