About the museum
The art collection of the Arciconfraternita della Misericordia di San Miniato is housed in the confraternity's historic building, Palazzo Roffia, a building from the second half of the 16th century with a late-Renaissance façade, built on the commission of Tommaso Roffia to a design by a son of the architect Baccio d'Agnolo. The works are displayed in a large hall on the first floor.
The collection has grown over the centuries thanks to numerous donations and includes medieval, Renaissance and Baroque sacred art, vestments and devotional objects linked to the confraternity's activities, as well as evidence of its service to the sick.
Among the most important pieces is the wooden group of the Deposition from the Cross, dating from the late 13th century and coming from the sacristy of the chapel of the Santissima Trinità. There are also a 17th-century canvas of the Coronation of the Virgin, a 16th-century Madonna and Child, probably by Francesco Lanfranchi, a reliquary containing the stole of Saint Charles Borromeo, and a 19th-century animal-drawn ambulance. The collection is part of the Sistema Museale di San Miniato circuit and is visited by booking.
