About the museum
The Collezione civica d’arte di Pinerolo is housed in Palazzo Vittone, a Baroque building designed in 1740 by the architect Bernardo Antonio Vittone and once the seat of the Ospizio dei Catecumeni. The museum occupies the spaces beneath the vaults of the hospice chapel and since 1978 has housed the city’s picture gallery.
The core of the collections consists largely of private donations and comprises paintings, graphic works, sculptures and medals from the 19th and 20th centuries, with particular attention to Piedmontese artists and to those active on the national stage. Among the painters represented are Ernesto Bertea, Lorenzo Delleani and Enrico Reycend.
A section is dedicated to contemporary religious art, with works by sculptors such as Giacomo Manzù, Pericle Fazzini, Emilio Greco, Francesco Messina, Luigi Spazzapan and Floriano Bodini. The association Amarte 1999 supports the collection and promotes visits and educational activities; temporary exhibitions are also held in the palace.
