About the museum
The museum is housed in Palazzo Vittone, a building designed in 1740 by the architect Bernardo Vittone, which also houses the Pinacoteca civica and the Museo etnografico del Pinerolese. It is part of the MUPI city museum system.
The collection tells the story of the settlement of the Pinerolo plain from prehistory onwards and presents, in particular, a selection of three-dimensional casts of important European rock engravings, arranged in four rooms: the first is dedicated to sites in France, Sweden and Spain, the second to Italy, and the third and fourth to the Pinerolo area.
The museum also holds local archaeological documentation, a specialist library, a video library, a photographic archive and a teaching workshop equipped for schools.
