About the museum
The picture gallery of Ripe San Ginesio grew out of RipeArte, an open-air contemporary art exhibition that has animated the alleys and squares of the village since 1982, promoted by young local painters, sculptors and enthusiasts. The artists invited to exhibit gradually donated original works to the municipality, which formed a civic collection of several hundred pieces.
The collection includes painting, sculpture and graphic works by artists from the Marche, Italy and abroad, among them Umberto Peschi, Giorgio Bompadre, Mario Giacomelli, Renato Barisani, Silvio Craia, Wladimiro Tulli, Fulvio Ligi, Angelo Casciello and Roberto Torregiani. The gallery also hosts exhibitions and cultural events.
The commitment to contemporary art has led the village to present itself as a city of contemporary art: in addition to the exhibition venue there is the Diffusa project, which brings groups of works from the gallery into workshops, shops and venues in the historic centre, as well as the Parco Scultoreo and the Viale degli Artisti, with iron and wood installations.
