About the museum
The museum is housed in the former 14th-century church of San Sebastiano, in Via Merelli, owned by the municipality of San Ginesio. A first display dates from around 1564, when the building, already deconsecrated, was reused to house collections. After a period of partial abandonment, the structure was restored in the second half of the 20th century and reopened in 1995.
Before the earthquakes the collections were divided into ancient art, modern art and archaeology. Among the works are paintings by Ridolfo del Ghirlandaio, Vincenzo Pagani, Stefano Folchetti, Simone De Magistris and Nicola d'Ulisse, sketches and works by modern artists, 19th-century firearms, majolica and ceramic plates.
The earthquakes of 2016 and 2017 made the building unsafe. Some of the works were shown in a temporary venue in the former church of Sant'Agostino, in the exhibition “Hoc Opus”.
