About the museum
The collection is dedicated to Leonardo Castellani (1896–1984), a printmaker who taught copperplate engraving at the Scuola del Libro in Urbino for almost forty years. In 1986 his widow and children donated a large number of his works to the city, which formed the core of the collection.
The collection is displayed in a room of the former Collegio Raffaello, in Piazza della Repubblica, within the Palazzo Albani complex, and is the first step towards a museum of Urbino printmaking. It includes more than 150 works made with etching, aquatint and drypoint, among them landscapes, views of the Marche countryside and still lifes.
In the same spaces, next to the Sala degli Incisori, exhibitions by other contemporary masters and initiatives to promote printmaking are held periodically.
