About the museum
The museum is housed in a former shed of the ancient granite quarry of Cala Francese, on the island of La Maddalena. Quarrying began here in the second half of the 19th century, and the granite was exported to many parts of the world.
The exhibition includes machinery, objects, photographs and historical documents from the quarry, while a video projection reconstructs its important mining activity. In the quarry area visitors can also see the stonecutters’ village and other machinery, such as cranes, trolleys and a small train.
